From the Einstein puzzle to a block of flats
The famous Einstein puzzle (also known as the zebra puzzle, or «who owns the fish?») is a logic grid puzzle: you combine clues until every person fits into exactly one house. In Cross in a Box the grid is the building itself: each room is a cell, and you mark «maybe» and ✕ right on it, no pen and paper needed.
A worked example
Picture a building with three floors and three neighbours. Lupe says: «There was a canary on my floor». Only the 3rd floor has a canary, so the 3rd floor is Lupe's. Since there's one neighbour per floor, nobody else can be on the 3rd. Andrés says: «I was exactly one floor below a floor with a dog»; the only dog is on the 2nd floor, so Andrés is on the 1st floor. That leaves the 2nd floor for Nieves. Clue by clue, that's how the whole case is solved.
With solutions and step-by-step help
If you're stuck, the 💡 Hint button looks at what you've marked and explains the next step of the reasoning, like a patient teacher. And once you close the case you can see the full solution, explained.

Frequently asked questions
What is a logic grid puzzle?
A puzzle where you match people, places or things using clues. You note the possibilities in a grid and cross them out until only one combination is left.
How do you solve the Einstein (zebra) puzzle?
The same way as these cases: start with the clues that pin something down for certain, note it, and use each new fact to rule out options in the other clues. You never need to guess.
Where can I play logic grid puzzles online for free?
Right here. Cross in a Box cases go from very easy to extreme, they're free, and every one has a solution explained step by step.
Do I need pen and paper?
No. You mark directly on the building: «maybe» for the options and ✕ for what you've ruled out. You can undo whenever you like.
